  • VESSEL: NOAA Ship Discoverer

  • VIA:

  • ARRIVED: Hobart, Australia, 13 December, 1995

For each cruise leg of ACE1 there are three particle size distribution data sets available for plotting and/or downloading.
  1. A DMPS (Differential Mobility Particle Sizing System) measured particle number size distribution at 10% RH in the geometric diameter range of 0.01 to 0.57 microns during Leg 1 and 0.005 to 0.57 microns during Leg 2.
    (Files: ACE1_nsd_dmps_L1.csv  and  ACE1_nsd_dmps_L2.csv )
  2. An APS measured particle number size distribution in the aerodynamic diameter range of 0.83 to 5.05 microns at an RH below the efflorescence point of sea salt (approximately 45%RH, Tang et al., 1997). (Here aerodynamic diameter means that the particle has the aerodynamic drag force equivalent to a unit density particle of that diameter.)
    (Files: ACE1_nsd_aps_L1.csv  and  ACE1_nsd_aps_L2.csv )
  3. A DMPS-APS, diameter corrected, composite size distribution at 55% RH. The APS diameters have been corrected from aerodynamic diameters at approximately 33% RH to geometric diameter at RH 55% using a growth factor of 1.3. The DMPS data have been converted from 10% RH to 55% RH using a growth factor of 1.2 (Berg et al., 1998).  The size range in the composite size distribution is 0.024 to 4.467 microns for Leg 1 and 0.005 to 5.012 microns for Leg 2.
    (Files: ACE1_nsd_dmps_aps_L1.csv  and  ACE1_nsd_dmps_aps_L2.csv )

The following files are available for downloading. Please note: one data file may cover more than one time period, thus, some files may be listed more than once. All files are in csv (comma separated value) format. After several lines of general information each file starts with a first row that contains the particle diameter in microns for that column. The first column contains the date/time in Day-of-Year, DOY. DOY 32.5 is 1200 noon UTC on 1-February. All data are in units of dN/dlog10(Dp), N/cm^3. Missing data are designated by a -99 or a -999.
