Aerosols Indoex 99 Radiosondes

Radiosondes were launched from the deck of the RON BROWN at synoptic times 00Z and 12Z during the AEROSOLS and INDOEX projects. During the INDOEX project radiosondes were also launched at 18Z and sometimes at 06Z.

The data from these radiosondes have been interpolated onto a 125m vertical grid using a piece-wise second order polynomial fit.  The regrided data have been used to make time height cross sections of relative humidity and winds.

5-day time height cross sections are available in the table below in the altitude ranges 0-5 Km and 0-20 Km.  The 0-5 Km plots are useful to look at boundary layer process and the 0-20 Km plots show the entire sounding.  Four soundings in the AEROSOLS Leg 1 had defective humidity sensors and returned no humidity data, these were on day 017 at 12Z, day 020 at 12 Z, day 023 at 12Z, and Day 027 at 00Z.  Five soundings during INDOEX Leg 2 had defective humidity sensors, these were on day 064 at 00Z, 073 at 12Z, 076 at 06Z, 089 at 18Z, and 080 at 00Z.

The horizontal wind vectors are plotted at 125 meter vertical resolution in the 0 to 5 km plots and with 1 Km  resolution in the 0 to 20 Km plots.  Arrows pointing down indicate  wind from the north, Arrows pointing right indicate wind from the west. The length of the standard wind vector at the bottom of the plot is 20 m/s.  A number of the soundings had sections with no reported winds, these are indicated by a lack of wind vectors in the plots.
