July 16 (197): Initiation of Second Full Lagrangian
Meteorological Summary: The ship operated within 200 km of the
coast of Portugal during this period. A low pressure system on the Iberian
Peninsula brought clouds on days 196 and 197. This is seen in the satellite
pictures, the high RHs in the radiosonde plot for day 196 and in the low
total solar radiation at the ship on day 197. The low did not affect the
back trajectories much, as they appeared to be controlled by the much larger
North Atlantic High. Almost all trajectories reaching the ship at 950 and
850 mb appeared to pass over at least part of Spain or Portugal. After
the beginning of day 198 BL heights were very low (500m or less).
