WORKSHOP INFORMATION

IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP IN MIND THAT ONE OF THE OVERRIDING GOALS OF INDOEX IS TO LINK THE POLLUTION AEROSOL PHYSICOCHEMISTRY TO ITS OPTICAL EFFECTS.

Facilitating this assessment is an overarching objective of the Harmony workshop by reaching consensus on our understanding of the size, chemistry and resulting optical properties of the aerosol. I see the scattering to submicrometer mass as a valuable tool in achieving this understanding. If common scattering ranges are used for different platforms and methods and if submicrometer scattering to mass values (submicrometer) are generated from both impactor and size distribution data then these values can at least be compared to each other. The chemistry (C), optics (O) and size-distribution (D) groups should work together toward this objective.
 

DATA FORMAT and NEEDS

If you have Size Distributions from cascade impactors, DMA’s, OPC’s these are best compared on a volume (mass) basis so we ask that plots of linear dV/dlogDp vs. log Dp plots be used as a standard format (area under curves proportional to mass).
