ENERAL OVERVIEW

The meteorological situation as it is expected to be at 0000 UTC on Saturday,
April 14 are shown in the 24 hour forecast chart. The low pressure
center will have moved to approximately 38 N and east of Korea, and the
associated clouds will extend to the SW to apparently merge with a cloud
mass south of approximately 30 N, from about 120 - 126 E. This latter area is
the result of convergence in the flow around the subtraopical high to
the east, and rain showers there are expected to be intermittent. In the area NW
of Kyushu, Japan, the precipitation may be more significant. South
of 34 N, east of 130 E there will be at worst scattered stratocumulus clouds.

The expected situation for 0000 UTC on Sunday, April 15 are shown in the 48 hour
forecast map. The front associated with the weak low pressure
center will have moved past southern Japan and be east of apprxomiately 134 E in
most of the areas accessible to our operations. Cloud amounts
will be low over the Yellow Sea and the western Sea of Japan, interrupted by
scattered clouds. Cirrus clouds are expected near 30 N east of the
coast of China.

Following are the surface wind forecasts for the Cheju vicinity and the ship's
location for the following 48 hours. Near Cheju, at 1200 UTC on April
13, SW at 10 ms-1; at 0000 UTC on the 14th, SW at 12 ms-1; at 1200 on April 14,
W-NW at 12 ms-1; at 0000 UTC on the 15th, W at 8 ms-1;
and at 1200 on the 15th, SW at 5 ms-1.
For the ship's location,
at 1200 UTC on the 13th, SW at 10-15 ms-1;
at 0000 UTC on the 14th freshening to 15 ms-1 from the SW;
at 1200 UTC on the 14th WSW at 8-10 ms-1;
at 0000 UTC on the 15th SW at 8-10 ms-1; and
at 1200 UTC on the 15th SW at 8-10 ms-1.

MISR local mode pass near Oki Is. (36N, 133E) and the Ron
Brown and will then fly south to conduct aerosol gradient measurements in the
Asian plume in the vicinity of Amimi- O-Shima (28N, 128E).
The Ron Brown is taking measurements at 35 45N, 132 30E in coordination with the
C-130 and the MISR pass.
The Twin Otter took off at 0000 UTC to fly south of Iwakuni to the southeast of
Kyushu Island, vicinity of 30N,132E, and conduct radiation and
aerosol characterization measurements.
