ST MEETING 27 June, Forecast for 28 June - DOY 179

Received mail to Randy. We hope to give your final position tomorrow at 
0200Z. That supposes everthing goes well with the trajectory calc.
We expect a large E-W gradient in wind velocity at 40 N, going from 5 knots 
to 15 knots over some degrees. 5 knt traj. will go far W of islands, 15 knt 
traj end in Africa. The 10 knt seems to be the good one.
I am wearing the ACE-1 T-shirt.

 

ST meeting 0627 Friday

Meteo outlook
DAY N+1, N+2 : 
The principal structures remain almost stationary. In upper levels,
northwesterly flow over
the whole ACE-2 area and in the lower levels winds from the north
dominate. Cloud
thickness and the MBL depth will increase. Rainfall over the whole area.
N winds around
12 kts. For these days posibility of fog exists in Izaņa. There is
subsident air over the whole
area. Clean air at all levels over Tenerife. Clean air at all levels
over Sagres tomorrow. The
day after tomorrow, anthropogenic air from Ireland or the U.K. may reach
at lower levels
over Sagres and the northeast corner of the area.
DAY N+3, N+4 : 
Meteorological situation begins to change. The low moves northwards and
a weak
anticyclone is developing between Azores and Canarias. The MBL depth and
cloud thickness
will decrease, but it will be mostly cloudy over the whole area except
in the northern where it
will be scattered to broken. Winds around 10 kts from the NW in the
North part of the area,
and from the NE around 16 kts in the southern part. Rainfall over the
north of the islands
and probability over the sea.

1. Pelican Turbulence and CCN tested in flight
2. Joint lab calibration recommended for FSSP's flown in
intercomparisons

Saturday
3. Start Clean air full LAGRANGIAN around 12.00 UTC, with ship at about
40N00' 15W00'. Very homogeneous air mass, that is expected near  Sagres
at the same time as it is near the ship. Transit to Tenerife about 48
hours. PDH and IZO to be running Sunday through Monday. Ship follows
balloons till 35 N'00.  
4. Citation to consider joining LAGR on Sunday.
5. ST meeting at 1700Z to decide for a 48 or 72 hrs LAGR.
