ST MEETING 25 June, Forecast for 26 June - DOY 177

Dear shipmates 

- Sagres will try to get a paper from the police tonight or tomorrow morning. 
Go to near Sagres and contact them by phone. Depart before 12.00 tomorrow.
- The balloon was released at 10.35  because we could convince Ali/Dave
only at about 8.30 to do the clear LAGR. Sagres had told that they were
ready for it the evening before. So we positiond you and the C130
started preparations. We couldn't just stop the operations. The draw
back was the delay and probably the haste of balloon preparations.
- Didn't have the chance to ask about the 459.850 MHzACE-2 Data 
- Full LAGRANGIAN now expected to start in weekend, but your data on
Friday morning could change that.We take notice of 18 hrs notice

ST meeting 0625 Wednesday

Meteo outlook
DAY N+1, N+2 : 
Upper levels: northwesterly flow over the whole ACE-2 area. Lower
levels: The low of
996 is now over northern France almost stationary, with the cold front
over southern
Iberian moving southward to reach Sagres and the ACE-2 area.This will
increase
cloudiness and depth of clouds also around Sagres. Possibly, some rain
over the area
and increase of MBL-depth with the pass of the front-tail. The
anticyclone over Azores
will move and extend northwards and the wind will blow from the north
around 15 kts
over the whole area, advecting clean air at all levels in the S of the
area.
DAY N+3, N+4 : 
Meteorological situation is quite similar to N+2 with a relative low
over Iberian. The
weather conditions will be the same as on day N+2. The MBL depth will
continue to
increase lightly and possibly fog in Izana. Northerly winds around 15
kts and maybe
advection of polluted air from the UK and Ireland, in the lowest 2 km.

Operations

Today
1. Clear LAGRANGIAN/COLUMN attempted. Balloon launch at 10.32UTC.
Pollution
measured by S05, ship and C130. Only partially successful because of
malfunctioning 
balloon transmitter.
2. Successful clean air CLOUDYCOLUM with Merlin and Dornier. Closure
possible in first
half of the flight
3. HILLCLOUD canceled last night, due to lack of cloud.
4. Pelican on the ground.


Thursday
5. 3 A/C CLOUDYCOLUMN with C130. Clean conditions.  Briefing at 7.30
UTC.
6. Pelican on the ground.
7. Ship to stay near Sagres for delivery. Should leave at least at 12.00
on track

Friday
6. (Polluted ?) air expected coming from near UK. 
7. First option is 3 (or 4) A/C CLOUDYCOLUMN (including Pelican) in more
polluted 
conditions.
8. Ship not to cross 15 W, and to return on track

Saturday/Sunday
8. Conditions for starting a full LAGRANGIAN expected to be better
during the weekend
