ST MEETING 20 June, Forecast for 21 June - DOY 172 Tim/Trish 1. Please tell what is NOT operational in next messages 2. Did you do a race track ?. Why staying 36hrs idle near Sagres? Suggestion to steam to 37N 17W and return to SE of Sagres by Sunday morning. This will connect ship with Tenerife through a common trajectory for a few hours (= Lagrangian set up). If not possible now, this is certainly the idea for the coming weeks. 3. How is ship traffic S of Sagres (disturbance for clearLAG?) Ciao ST meeting 0620 Friday Meteo outlook N+1, N+2 upper levels: westerly flow over the whole ACE-2 area, strongest in the north. lower levels: low of984 over the British Islands with the clouds of the cold front expecting to reach Sagresin the morning hours. For the rest of the ACE-2 area we expect the same conditions as today. the day after tomorrow at upper levels a ridge of high presure will move eastward over Azores increasing the subsidence later on over the ACE-2 area. in lower levels the remains of the cold fron will move southwards increasing cloudiness, mainly in the northeasterly. we can expect winds from NE at 15kts. Meteo outlook N+3, N+4 upper levels: ridge of high pressure slightly east of Azores. Increasing subsidence over ACE area, this will lower the inversion height as well as the cloud tops. Lower levels: high pressure of 1028hPa over Azores extending to north of Ib. Peninsula. giving over ACE area slightly stronger winds from NE (15-20kts). Clear skies over Sagres, clouds scattered to broken southwards and broken to overcast just north of Tenerife. Today 1. CLEARCOLUMN Pelican/IZO flight NOT performed 2. PCAPS intercomparison on Merlin NOT performed 3. Test flight Dornier performed 4. HILLCLOUD Mission (Task 4.1) Saturday 5. Clean over Sagres and Tenerife. 6. CLEARCOLUMN Mission (Task 1.3) with Pelican/IZO/NOAA14 7. PCAPS intercomparison on Merlin and/or reconfiguration for ACE2 Sunday 8. Clean over Sagres and Tenerife. 9. Sagres/ship intercomparison Monday-Tuesday 10. possibility of European pollution outbreak General. - pollution prediction for Sagres, in case trajectories passing the Iberian coast less accurate than thought. Are similarly sensitive as for Tenerife - Can the von Karman waves south of the islands be a natural laboratory for aerosol-cloud interaction studies ? TNS lidar and A/C can check pollution levels - Should we plan more chemistry measurements in dust layers ? - What would a clean full LAGRANGIAN tell more than ASTEX and ACE-1?
